ROTA CHECKER

Challenge

As s part of “Guardian of Safe working hours” BMA thought of building a software tool where junior doctors can validate the Rota for compliance. And rightly identified PearlArc and provided an opportunity for providing a software solution.

Solution

The enthusiastic team at PearlArc accepted and provided solution by developing a cloud based web application which was responsive to use on the mobile devices for checking the Rota for compliance.

Result

As a result, now, BMA junior doctors can validate their Rota and abide by the rules of the government. BMA was successfully able to extend their support to the junior doctors.

Brief

PearlArc was successful in building a fascinating application Rota Checker. Rota checker was a cute application at the same time very challenging in terms of turning concepts to practicality.

Challange

On 6 July NHS Employers released the final terms and conditions of service for junior doctors in England. Following several rounds of negotiations with the BMA, several changes to the contract have now been secured. The new version of the contract was rejected by BMA members in a referendum held in June and the BMA continue to resist the imposition of the contract, which will start in August and directly affect some members in October (see implementing section below).

One of these changes was rigorous oversight of contract by a new ‘guardian of safe working’ role – this has been created to ensure safe working for junior doctors.

Within the new contract there will be three functions which oversee the safety of doctors in training and service delivery:

The employer must design schedules of work that are safe for patients and doctors.

The director of medical education oversees the quality of the educational experience.

The guardian of safe working hours provides independent oversight on compliance with safe working hours by the employer and the doctor.

Solution

The enthusiastic team at PearlArc accepted and provided solution by developing a cloud based web application which was responsive to use on the mobile devices for checking the Rota for compliance.

Rota Checker was built with latest Microsoft Technologies like ASP.Net MVC, C#, HTML 5.0, CSS 3.0, Angular JS, jQuery, Entity Framework 6.0 and exhibited design strengths by applying proper design patterns where ever necessary. And its responsive design helps the application to be accessed on both computer, mobile and tablets.

In this case the fascinating thing was to build application which was user friendly, satisfy the rules for Rota, where we have to play and build logics around date and times.

Result

As a result, now, BMA junior doctors can validate their Rota and abide by the rules of the government. BMA was successfully able to extend their support to the junior doctors.
