Brief

Basically, aim of the project is to track a large group of middle-aged Australians so that we can identify which parts of brain biology, genes, psychology and behavior (or a combination of) can help predict who will progress to a dementia later in life. We will gather lots of data from ~4,000 participants and follow them each year for at least five years (and longer if possible!)

Challange

The Healthy Brain Project is a community-based initiative to understand optimal brain health and aging. A group of neuroscientists based at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health, who are committed to investigating why some people develop brain diseases and why others don't. This will help us develop behavioral and pharmacological strategies to combat diseases like Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.

Participants will be asked to take up a series of memory and thinking tests, and to fill out surveys related to lifestyle, mood, personality, medical history and demographic information. You can do this over a period of days, whenever you can snatch some spare time! Obviously, we’d like you to do the memory tests in a quiet space, but the surveys can be done on the go on the way to work, if that’s the only time you have!

Solution

PearlArc helped to build the above concept into a system. It has developed a cloud based web application, where participants will register in the website and takes series of test and surveys. These test and surveys are configurable year over year. Also, alert system has been built to notify members when they have not completed. For memory tests system is integrated with Cogstate and CanTab through API’s.

HBP application is designed and built with Microsoft Technologies like ASP.Net MVC, C#, HTML 5.0, CSS 3.0, jQuery, Angular JS, Entity Framework 6.0 with MS Azure SQL backend.

Result

The Healthy Brain Project is helping the Research team in Florey hospital for study on Alzheimer’s. There are more than 5000 users who are taking part in Healthy Brain Survey.
